Recently completed Projects

UPEA worked on a variety of projects in past few years. Here are some of them.

 

The former UPPCO building, now called the Lakeshore Center, was renovated during the year. The renovation was designed by UPEA. The building is a business incubator for Copper Country entrepreneurs.

UPEA assisted Saints Peter and Paul Church in Houghton with the design of their new church, which was dedicated in March 2009. 

 

Whitefish Point: UPEA assisted the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum with the restoration of the lantern at the top of the skeletal light tower at the Whitefish Point Light Station.The light tower was constructed in 1861.

The restoration stopped at the bottom of the viewing deck. Future phases will restore the skeletal tower, which over the years has seen some of its painted surfaces deteriorate.

Downtown Houghton saw major streetscape construction during the year.

UPEA began assisting the City of Houghton with the project several years ago with planning and applying for funding.

This section of Shelden Avenue was completed in October 2009.

The City of Cheboygan completed construction on a footbridge over the Cheboygan River.

 

 

The City of Negaunee completed a portion of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail.
