Open Positions

Architect: This position involves Architectural design and project coordination with a key design role on a variety of projects. Design responsibilities include programming, schematic design, and construction documents. Construction phase responsibilities include preparation of contracts, construction meetings, shop drawing review, and project inspections. You will lead and participate in meetings and communications with clients, contractors, and code administrators. You will work directly with a senior project architect, with increasing leadership roles on the design team.

Senior Environmental Engineer Project Manager: P.E. and strong PM experience required. This position offers a variety of opportunities for environmental professionals with a varied skill set: Regulatory Compliance reporting, Industrial Storm water permitting, Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure, Storage Tanks (AST, UST), Solid Waste Reporting, property acquisition due diligence, Brownfield Redevelopment - 381 Plan, TIFA Plan, state and federal funding programs, Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Studies (RI/FS), Remedial Action Plans with soil and groundwater remediation experience, Michigan Type I & Type II water well construction and permitting, hydrogeologic investigations, Aquifer Pump testing, Slug testing, groundwater exploration methods, Geologic Map interpretation, environmental sample collection and evaluation vis-a-vis state and federal criteria, knowledge of environmental and geotechnical drilling and other investigation techniques, wetlands capabilities-delineation, mitigation, indoor air quality testing (mold and other contaminants), Air Permit to Install familiarity. Other areas of knowledge and experience: Solid Waste management and permitting, Solid Waste Hydrogeological Monitoring plans, contaminated site investigation & closure.


Senior Civil Engineer: P.E. required. USDA/RD experience in Wisconsin and/or Michigan a plus. Excellent opportunity for advancement.


Civil Designer: Primarily focused on the design of municipal water and wastewater systems using Civil 3D. The successful candidate will take surveyors’ data and create base maps; create surfaces and edit them; create pipe networks; and water and sewer plans. The candidate must be able to use all of the parts of the corridor package to create road plans. A few of those parts are creating alignments, profiles, sections and assemblies. The successful candidate will also be able to do grading and volume calculations. In addition, the successful candidate will have five-plus years of experience and also be efficient with Word and Excel. Knowledge of GIS is a benefit.


Structural Engineer: U.P. Engineers & Architects, Inc. has openings for Structural Engineers with 3-5 years of relevant experience. The individual should possess a strong practical technical knowledge and shall be capable of performing duties independently.

Description: Direct CAD designers in the production of structural construction documents for small to moderately sized projects; Research product selection and materials for use on projects; Layout structural framing systems and detail connections; Develop design criteria and perform structural analysis of new design and existing structures; Collaborate on projects with in-house Engineers/Architects/Designers and Clients; Prepare design calculations for small to medium span bridge replacement projects; Perform load rating analysis of existing structures for repairs/retrofits in a manufacturing and/or commercial building environment; Review and respond to RFI’s, submittals and other construction related documents; Author technical reports and project correspondence.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering with 3-5 years relevant experience desirable; Must be knowledgeable and experienced in the application of structural engineering principles in the design of buildings – including building materials, systems and/or bridge design experience; Experience with structural engineering software including AutoCAD, Revit STAAD.PRO, Ram Structural System and/or Risa 3d; Must have a good understanding of construction documents, including both drawings and technical specifications; Willing to adapt to different project types and tasks on a daily basis; Able to perform visual observations and use precision instruments; Current U.S. citizen or permanent work visa (required).


Mechanical Engineer: P.E. required. Work includes: create efficient HVAC designs including ductwork, piping and equipment sizing and selection; develope specifications, working drawings and other related documents for commercial, governmental, residential and institutional clients; perform design calculations and equipment selection and layout of HVAC systems and equipment such as heat, gas, hot water, chilled water and central plants; perform heating and cooling load calculations utilizing standard industry software; communicate regularly with project managers and other members of the project team; perform construction administration; supervise or coordinate the work of designers and technicians.


Environmental Technician/Geologist: UPEA is seeking an Entry-Level staff member (0 to 5 years of experience) to join our Environmental Team. The successful candidate will have a strong educational background, have first-rate technical writing skills, be proficient in AutoCAD and GIS/ArcMap, possess the ability to work alone on job sites and improvise on the fly, be able to lift 50 pounds, and have previous experience or knowledge of wetlands and soil classification, and Phase I ESA’s.
As a member of our team as an Environmental Technician or Geologist, you will work on soil and groundwater sampling, contaminated site investigations, soil classification, lead and asbestos sampling, wetland delineations, and environmental reporting (Phase I ESA, Phase II, BEA, etc.).


Positions in the Iron Mountain Office

Civil Engineer: UPEA is seeking a civil engineer with one to seven years of experience for a position in our Iron Mountain office. Prefer an engineer with a transportation focus.


Surveyor: Responsible for performing topographic, boundary, hydrographic and construction layout. Required: a Michigan Professional License or a four-year degree in Land Surveying and the ability to become a Professional Surveyor in Michigan. Must be proficient in GPS Systems, Total Robotic Stations and Data Collectors. Must know and use CAD software. Must understand budget and deadlines. Strong communication skills are critical. Experience with MDOT/WisDOT projects is a plus.
